Okay, so let's just keep saying that Israel funded Hamas. But Hamas accepted the funding. Why does that point keep being missed? When we are talking about principles, wouldn't it stand to reason that a principled person or persons would decline the funding knowing that the idea is to keep the unification of the Palestinian People impossible?
My mother used to always say, "If somebody jumps out of the window, are you gonna jump out of the window as well?"
To keep saying that Israel funded Hamas is to literally take agency from Hamas as if Hamas had to do the bidding of Israel. Can we seek out those questions? Did Israel "force" Hamas to take the billions?? Or is Hamas just as complicit in taking the money as Israel is in giving it to them.
Think about the story of how Judas took 30 pieces of silver (Matthew 26:14-16) so he could betray "Jesus". Who really was the bad guy? The chief priests who offered the silver or the one who took it.
I think that one of the biggest problems that humanity has is shifting the weight of responsibility, good or bad, over to someone else. I am assuming that Hamas and its leaders had choice. They chose to accept funding from Israel. If we deny this then we are taking agency away from them and placing it in the hands of Israel. We are in fact, bolstering Israel's arrogance that they can "buy" or "make" folks to do their bidding. If that is the case, and I don't know for sure, then Hamas is really a weak handmaiden of Israel.
I think it is dangerous to take agency from Hamas. They too must be held accountable for the "choices" they made as well. They cannot fall back on the ole, "Devil made me do it."Â
In my estimation, Hamas is just as guilty as Israel. They are co-arbiters of the chaos we are now seeing happen to the Palestinians. If they can be bought, can we sincerely see them as Freedom Fighters or moderate rebels? "Question Everything."
