I loved that film. Forgotten so much of the plot since! I mainly remember how natural the San were in front of the camera, with the bottle. Lol @ the memories of the ancient landrover! :'D
We are all stewed in the myth of 'modern superiority' Nana, from school, and media.
It was, of all books, reading Bertrand Russel's 'A History of West Philosophy' in my late childhood where that STARTED to crack: he lays out the 'Premodern's' thoughts, and it absolutely blew my head just how clever and wise they actually were.
Absolutely mindbogglingly good books as David Graeber's more recent 'Dawn of Everything' (A book I simply cannot recommend enough) are cracking that open with a crowbar for those with minds to learn.
Once you learn (As a Taoist-Pagan it's hard to miss) that "Moderns" are just as 'superstitious', ignorant, full of prejudice, and frankly even more barbaric, than any 'primitive' could ever have been, the scales fall away. And, lol, you become a "Conspiracy theory wacko", lmao!!
The sheer physical grace of rural African women, as they carry a bucket of water in each hand, and one on the head, while also toting a toddler two, could only be missed by an evil braindead racist. Physical grace does translate into smarter brains.
And then you look at the now average Westerner, physically, intellectually and morally broken, with all the 'goodies' of modern life, and yet poverty written into every line, every muscle, every slump, every defeat of life stamped upon their faces and bodies.
My African students WOULD NOT BELIEVE there was poverty in the UK, and nearly all of them wanted, some desperately, to get here. (Which is entirely understandable).
I *tried* to tell them, to explain to them that there is a different kind of poverty here... but most thought I was just trying to put them off. :'( I wasn't, just trying to warn them.
When they come, they will learn. And if they are lucky, they will get to return back with some stored wealth from their time. I met a few who had returned; I recall one clearly (Who had invested in a shop); and he was very appreciative of my appreciation of what he had gone through during his time here. The Africans couldn't know, and the Whitey visitors were nearly all oblivious (Middle class aid workers etc). A moment of human solidarity for the sheer awfullness of Western 'civilisation'.
Sorry, been quite reminiscent for the past week for some reason. Verbal diarrhoea too!
No worries, I appreciate reading your thoughts. I too have met people from Africa, Jamaica, Haiti, India, China and other countries… they come here filled with the propaganda of the so called “land of the free, home of the brave.” Then they get here and the struggle happens for them. This whole USA being the freest country in the world is such a crock of sh*t it ain’t funny. But even more concerning is the inhabitants of this country believe it too. The educational system as you describe, falls so short from actually “educating” as it is more propaganda. I would say, that when it comes to what the USA really is and the myth, it causes the citizens a major case of cognitive dissonance.

Me too. It really says a bit about the difference between the so-called primitive world and the industrialized world.

Truly.
Even the Polish who came here had a rude awakening; many were not unhappy to leave after the brexshit referendum.
